Tomoro Ouchida
Life and Art of a Shodo Master
SHO 書: to write, writing
DO 道: the path, the way or the TAO
Since the 5th century, SHODO has been appreciated as one of the oldest and most profound art forms in Japan. Throughout the history of Asia, SHODO has made its artistic impact over the existence of a 3,000 year tradition. SHODO is a highly regarded art — hailed for both the skill to master it and the nuance of its aesthetic.
Ouchida Sensei was one of the rare masters whose art encompassed diverse styles in his flow of the brush and ink combined with the inner stillness and concentration to create great masterworks of calligraphy. This was only possible for one whose artistic solitude was balanced by great spiritual generosity; a great artist to be cherished and remembered.
